Physical Education Classes

Physical Education

At Sarasota Lutheran School we feel that it is also important to have a strong body as well as a strong spirit and mind .  Twice a week kindergarten through 8th grade participates in physical education classes.  We promote team spirit, physical wellness, and  healthy bodies.

The early childhood program has daily playground time with developmentally appropriate activities.  The two and three year old classes have their own playground with equipment that meets the needs of their specific age group.

Students in kindergarten through grade 8 will participate in physical education classes unless there is a written excuse provided by the parent. Children excused from P.E. will also be excluded from recess activities on that particular day. A written excuse from the child’s physician will be necessary for extended time periods.

The expected physical education dress code and requirements for grades three through eight are as follows:

  • Students are required to wear the gray Stingray tee shirt, navy shorts and tennis shoes.
  • Each student will be given four “free days” of not dressing out per quarter without penalty, but he/she still must participate in the class.
  • The third time he/she forgets their physical education uniform, the student will receive an “N” for needs improvement on his quarterly report card.
  • The fourth time a student does not have his physical education uniform he/she will receive a “U” for unsatisfactory on his quarterly report card.
  • Grades will be awarded at the teacher’s discretion and based on child participation, sportsmanship, behavior and proper PE uniform. Non-participation or inappropriate behavior may also constitute an “N” or “U”.
  • Middle school students will be awarded a letter grade based on an accumulation of unit testing, participation, sportsmanship and proper PE uniform. Conduct grades will be given based on each student’s behavior.  Failure to dress out can result in a detention.
