Recognition of Student Achievement
Achievement is an emphasis at Sarasota Lutheran School. The school desires each student to use his/her God-given abilities and talents and seeks to identify those who have performed in an outstanding manner. A student who demonstrates academic excellence, diligence in study, or good conduct is awarded a certificate of recognition. Students in grades 2 – 8 who make all “A’s” with no “U’s” will be on the Principal’s Honor Roll. Students who receive all “A’s” and “B’s” and no “U’s” will be on the Honor Roll. A student receiving all “A’s” and “B’s” and one “C” and no “U’s” will receive the Academic Extra Effort Award.
National Junior Honor Society
Sarasota Lutheran School is a member of National Junior Honor Society. Students in their second semester of 6th grade and above are eligible candidates for membership. Membership is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by the faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship (3.5 GPA or above), leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Candidates are inducted twice yearly and accepted into membership once their dues are paid. Members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities. Membership is included on all transcripts.
Report Cards
All students in kindergarten - grade 8 will be issued report cards quarterly. The first report card is supplemented with a scheduled Parent-Teacher Conference. Through this means, a more complete understanding of the child’s academic, social, and spiritual growth is obtained for parents as well as the teacher. Special conferences will be called whenever necessary.
Promotion / Graduation Requirements
Before any student is promoted to the next grade level or graduates from the 8th grade, he/she must have satisfactorily completed all assigned schoolwork and have demonstrated an acceptable level of accomplishment.
Students who have a grade point average below 2.0 (“C” average) or “F’s” in two (2) or more major subjects (Religion, Reading, English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) will not be promoted or graduate. In order to be promoted, a student who is tutored over the summer because of failing marks must verify satisfactory completion of remedial work by earning a grade of “C” or above on a test given by his/her teacher in August.
Part of the process of training our children for responsible Christian living is to prepare them to serve the Lord. In keeping our focus on Christ, the middle school students, grades 6 through 8, must have a minimum of 30 service hours to graduate. Students enrolling at an upper grade level must accumulate 10 community service hours for each school year, even if a partial year is attended. Hours may be accumulated in many ways, but must be documented and signed by the sponsor, accepted by the student’s teacher and signed by the principal.
Eighth grade graduates must meet all financial obligations before graduation day in order to attend graduation ceremonies.
