Parent-School Partnership

Parent Teacher Consultations

It is hoped that a close relationship will exist between parents and teachers, so that they may assist each other in understanding and helping the children under their mutual care.

Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for Kindergarten – 8th grade students at the end of the first grading period.  Consult the school calendar and school newsletter for the dates.  It is essential that, when requested, parents participate in these conferences.  Additional consultations may be necessary.  They should be scheduled with the individual teacher at a mutually agreed upon time.

Rules of good etiquette and commonly held Christian principles should govern all communication in regard to questions, problems, or complaints.  A matter of concern should first be addressed privately in a Christian manner to the person in question.  When no satisfaction is gained from a personal conference, an appeal should be made to the principal who, if need be, will take the matter to the School Board.  If you do not feel that the principal has dealt with the matter, then request, ahead of time, to be placed on the agenda for the next School Board meeting.

No complaint should be brought to a teacher between 8:00 a.m. and  3:15 p.m.  This time is to be devoted to the education of the children. Conferences concerning students may be scheduled any afternoon after school or before school at a time mutually agreeable to both parent and teacher.  However, please refrain from telephoning teachers in the morning.  All consultations must be in private with no other students in the classroom.  When addressing teachers in front of their pupils, it is proper to refer to them as Mrs., Ms., or  Mr.

P.arents A.ctive in C.hristian E.ducation

Parents can use their talents in many ways to promote the school and the education for all children.  Education must be a hand in hand process between school and home.   Sarasota Lutheran School requires parents to participate in P.A.C.E. (Parents Active in Christian Education).  This program is designed to involve parents in the education of their child/ren.  There is a family requirement of 10 hours each year or $10 for every hour.   This is required of all Families.  Everybody wins, when parents are involved with their children.

Newsletters

Stingray Review, is the official newsletter of Sarasota Lutheran School.  The Stingray Review is published on the first of every month and is sent home via e-mail.  If you do not have an email address, copies are available through the school office.  It is very important that you take note of any adjustments in the school calendar, announcements of special events and meetings, and changes in school policies or procedures.  In addition, teachers send home classroom newsletters outlining events, curriculum, and field trips.  Please make sure you pay attention to the individual classroom newsletter editions for specifics regarding your child’s class.
